Grand Junction – Montrose

An Amtrak train.

The track between Grand Junction and Montrose was originally laid by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and follows an approximately 75 mile route southwest along what is now U.S. 50.

The proposed route starts in the center of Grand Junction (where it would connect with existing and proposed Central Corridor trains) and heads to Montrose via intermediate stations at Delta, Olathe and Montrose Regional Airport. As the tracks now see little to no freight traffic, frequent all-day service could be provided along the line.

The Western Rail Coalition supports the studying of what would be required to implement year-round passenger rail service along the full route between Grand Junction and Montrose.
